Foods that hurt in a different way

Being sick, I have had a lot of time to think. One of the things I have been thinking about is food and eating.

I don't understand why I eat the way I do. I know that I "eat my feelings" but I don't know why I am unable to stop.

You see, going gluten free has shown me that I am perfectly capable of eliminating things that are bad for me from my diet. I avoid gluten like the plague. I have left restaurants or even sat there with only a drink if they could not accommodate my needs. I take food to get-togethers. I make sure that my food is safe to eat.

What does gluten have that other equally bad for me foods don't have? Maybe it is that my response to gluten is swift and without mercy but the results of overeating candy and junk doesn't show up right away? I don't know, but I intend to find out.
